UPDATE - NEWGATE LANE HOUSING PROPOSALS
- Details
Following the recent application by Bargate Homes and the recent appeal hearing, local Councillor Stephen Philpott, who attended and spoke at the meeting, has forwarded an update outlining the position of the proposed housing situation. The debate and its outcome are of extreme importance to Peel Common Residents.
Residents are also advised that the developer Bargate Homes has now appealed against the decision by Gosport Council to refuse permission to open up Brookers Lane to provide access for 99 homes in Newgate Lane East.

Newgate Lane housing development
- Details
The PCRA are aware of the concerns of the Peel Common residents to the proposed development of the Newgate Lane areas surrounding the new road Newgate Lane East.
The PCRA understanding is that Newgate Lane east area runs parallel to the Peel Common Estate where Fareham are looking to grant permission for the building of 475 houses. A current application for 99 of these houses is already in the pipeline with a controversial plan to open up Brookers Lane road to through traffic.
An application has also been made to build 115 houses in Newgate Lane South and 75 houses in Newgate Lane North. Both areas are on the Stubbington side of Newgate Lane.
The developer has not let Covid 19 interrupt his applications and the PCRA have only been able to glean a full picture of the proposals and their implications by relying on information from the local Hampshire Councillor Stephen Philpott.
Stephen Philpott recently forwarded a letter to a number of residents (in his ward) that is very comprehensive and may be of interest to Peel Common Residents. The letter and its contents have been downloaded to the Library and are available to view to help residents understand the current position of the Newgate Lane developments.
Residents are reminded that the letter has been placed on the website for information. It should also be noted that the PCRA committee along with a majority of residents are fully against most of the development however it is recognised that there are some residents we represent who may be of a different opinion.

Gosport in Bloom success
- Details
There was major success for Peel Common and our Gardener at the Gosport in Bloom celebration yesterday evening. Certificates and Medals were presented by Fred Dinenage at a function attended by many dignitaries including the Mayor of Gosport, Councillor Diane Furlong. Clive Lightfoot and his team of gardeners won two gold medals and a bronze.
The awards were a result of two separate judging visits to the estate this year. One during the rainy season and one when the earth was dry and scorched. It is heartening to see the recognition given to the attractiveness of the gardens and the hard work put in by Clive and his team.
The Peel Common Residents Association offer their wholehearted congratulations to Clive and his team
