Fareham Borough Council Planning report for the National Grid IFA2 planning application is now due to be published however it is possible that this could be delayed until early October. There are however certain circumstances that could have a bearing on the application.

The main arguments raised throughout the IFA2 proposal revolve around the unsuitability of Daedalus and the fact that there are other more suitable sites. However the IFA2 planning application aided and abetted by the leader of Fareham Council does not consider alternative sites in their planning decisions.

In order to have alternative sites considered a calling in notice has been raised. There have been two of these applications made to the National Planning Casework Unit (included was a combined application that the PCRA were party to) both applying for the application to be looked at by the Secretary of State. Each case emphasised the aspect of National Importance due to the countries current energy plans.

National Grid have put all their eggs in one basket and would not want to consider delays or alternative planning and the leader of Fareham Borough Council would certainly not welcome this added attention.  Residents will be updated as soon as more information is available.

There are now an estimated 1000+ objections and comments on the proposed IFA2 Interconnector at Daedalus. It is believed that less than 10 are in agreement with the planning application. The objections against the electrical converter includes Hampshire County Council.

Although the deadline for comments was 30 June, it was announced at a recent Community Action Team meeting that Fareham will continue to accept comment until the Planning Committee meeting in September. Residents who still wish to raise an objection are advised to use the detail listed in the previous PCRA News item published 19th May.

A recent addition to the Library is the PCRA objection forwarded on behalf of the residents association.

Further information:

The united residents associations of Peel Common, Lee-on-Solent and Hill Head have Called-In the Secretary of State to take over the planning application from Fareham. It is believed that this will provide a better chance of resident’s voices being heard and overcoming Fareham Borough Councils Judge and Jury control. For the application to be Called-In the Secretary of State’s department has to agree with the claims that Fareham should not have control of such an important decision.

The Electrical Power Converter is a massive building with potential risk problems and liable to cause major traffic concerns during construction. The PCRA believe that it is important that those residents opposed to this National Grid - Fareham Borough supported proposal are given information to help put forward their concerns. To this end the Peel Common Residents Association will be e-mailing instructions on who and how to forward  objections.

Isle of Grain visit

A group from Gosport including local councillors recently visited the electrical converter on the Isle of Grain. As commented by one visitor “Be aware, these buildings/housings are just 18 metres high, not 22 or 25. (as planned for Daedalus)

National Grid have taken the construction of the electrical converter at Daedalus a step further by submitting a planning application to Fareham Borough Council. It is believed that following a two week validation period, details of objections to the plan will be accepted from the public. Residents are reminded that the PCRA intend to give advice on the objection procedure to those wishing to take a stand against the IFA2 building.
